F1: Sergio Perez Crashes Out of Hungarian GP Qualifying
Disaster Strikes for Red Bull Driver
Sergio Perez's Hungarian Grand Prix weekend got off to a disastrous start when he crashed out of qualifying on Saturday. The Mexican driver lost control of his Red Bull car at Turn 11, sending it hard into the barriers. Perez was uninjured in the incident, but his car was too badly damaged to continue.
The crash came as a major setback for Perez, who has been struggling to keep pace with teammate Max Verstappen in recent races. Verstappen has won the last four races, while Perez has finished second twice and third once. Perez's crash means that he will start the Hungarian Grand Prix from the back of the grid, making it difficult for him to score points.
Rain and Thunderstorms Disrupt Qualifying
Perez's crash was not the only drama during qualifying. The session was interrupted twice by rain and thunderstorms, which made the track slippery and treacherous. Several drivers had near-misses, and Lando Norris was lucky to escape unharmed after his McLaren car aquaplaned off the track.
Despite the challenging conditions, Norris managed to claim pole position for the Hungarian Grand Prix. The British driver was 0.499 seconds faster than Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes, with Verstappen starting third. Norris's pole position was his first since the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix.
The Hungarian Grand Prix is scheduled to start at 3:00 pm local time on Sunday. Norris will be hoping to convert his pole position into a victory, while Perez will be aiming to recover from his qualifying crash and score some valuable points.
