Argentina Begins Title Defense with 2-0 Win Over Canada
Defending champions Argentina opened their Copa América campaign with a 2-0 victory over Canada on Thursday.
Julián Álvarez and Lautaro Martínez scored the goals for Argentina, who are now top of Group A.
Argentina made a bright start to the match and took the lead in the 13th minute when Álvarez fired home from close range after a good cross from Lionel Messi.
Canada had a few chances to equalize, but they were unable to find a way past Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez.
Argentina doubled their lead in the 57th minute when Martínez headed home from a corner.
Canada pressed for a goal in the closing stages, but Argentina held on for a comfortable victory.
