EURO 2024: France Kick Off Campaign with Narrow Win Over Austria
Les Bleus Get Off to a Winning Start in Group D
France got their UEFA EURO 2024 campaign off to a winning start in Group D on Tuesday, as an own goal from Maximilian Wöber earned them a tight victory against a tough Austria side.
It was a hard-fought match throughout, with both teams creating chances but neither able to find the breakthrough until the 53rd minute. A cross from Kingsley Coman into the Austrian box was met by Wöber, who unfortunately turned the ball into his own net under pressure from Karim Benzema.
France held on to their lead in the second half, with Austria unable to find a way back into the game. Les Bleus will now face Denmark in their next match on Saturday, while Austria will take on Croatia.
